Dr. Yuta Uchiyama（内山 愉太）
Short profile:
Dr. Uchiyama is an Associate Professor at Kobe University Graduate School of Human Development and Environment. He earned his Ph.D. at the Graduate School of Chiba University. His major interests are urban-regional planning and geographic information science. After obtaining his doctorate, he started working for the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kanazawa University, Tohoku University, and Nagoya University. He is conducting comprehensive studies on urban and rural areas through visualization of ecosystem services in Asian cities to facilitate inclusive environmental management for minimizing socio-ecological gaps and enhancing well-being in society. As conceptual and philosophical backgrounds, he is interested in Dark Ecology and research on public space (e.g. The Production of Space). He engaged in evaluating the ecosystem service in Asia Pacific Region and contributed to elaborating Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) assessment report for Asia and the Pacific (as a contributing author) and United Nations Environment Programme's Global Environment Outlook 6th Report (GEO6) for Youth (as a lead author).
In his previous research, he used GIS and other analysis methods to conduct (1) empirical analysis of sustainability and resilience indicators for megacities in different regions of the world, (2) analysis of the attitudes and behaviors of actors related to the management of local natural and cultural resources, and (3) research on policies and schemes for resource management (environmental taxes, payment for ecosystem services, regional designation systems, etc.).
